My 4 yr. old dd is desperate to take dance classes. She says she's mostly interested in ballet but I'd be happy to put her in anything but hip hop. It needs to be in the Middletown/Lyndon/Springhurst/St. Matthews area, less than $50 a month, and have an interesting place for parents to hang out during the class. Is this too much to hope for?

The interesting place to hang out might be the sticking point! :D
I remember Andrew Adler wrote a column in the paper a week or two ago about a new dance place on Westport Road, I believe. But I don't remember if it said anything about cost.
All About Kids has dance classes that I think are roughly in that price range. (It's been awhile since I checked.) They have a seating area with a vending machine and so forth and WIFI (!)and a little cafe downstairs. It's not Heine Brothers, but it's better than sitting in your car probably!

I'm really easy to please. When I say I want someplace interesting for parents I'm not looking for a pedicure and wine spritzer ;) I just want a comfortable, well-lit, ventilated room with either wifi or quasi-current magazines. Mostly I plan to watch my daughter but I don't want to feel like I'm sitting in a truck stop while I do it. I'll see if I can find that article you mentioned. Thanks!

My daughter has danced at Kathy Todd Dance Studio since she has been 4yrs old and now is 12. She does the tap and jazz. But they also have modern, ballet, hip-hop that I know of. Their rates are $31. a month for a group rate. It's not a glamorous studio, but you can sit and watch. Kathy has been teaching for 30+ years. It's not in your area of preference but I recommend it.

Take her to Elite Academy of Dance & Performing Arts. It just opened a year ago and we love it. They are located in Lyndon at the corner of Lyndon Lane & Lagrange Road. Great instructors and very affordable. One hour classes are $35.00 monthly.

I wanted to let everyone know how happy we are with out dance studio, Dance Fusion. This is my son's third year there and he has done nothing but improve. He is even dancing in the Nutcracker with the Louisville Ballet this year. The owner Ms. Kristal is wonderful with the children. My daughter who is only 3 just started this year and even though her attention span is not great, the teacher always ends the class with a smile on her face, I am not sure how but she does. The studio is pretty well located on the corner of Hurstbourne and Bardstown Rd.

Hi there-
I just had to write... I looked on this website for suggestions for dance classes for my 3 1/2 year old daughter. I took her to Elite Academy of Dance for a trial class. I could not have been more disappointed!
They were super friendly on the phone & very eager for me to try it, but then when we got there, the instructor was less than happy to have an additional girl in her class that day. She did not take any extra time with my daughter or help her with the routine. She just let her stand there and look helpless for 45 minutes. I realize that the other kids who are actually in the class should have more attention, but she should have at least made her feel welcome! My daughter is a bit shy, so all she needed was someone to welcome her. They did not do that.
I would not recommend this place. Needless to say, we are going elsewhere. Plus, all the parents waiting in the waiting room were all bragging about their children who had been taking dance for years & about how great they are. No one was welcoming to new children who maybe never had dance classes... Just thought I would share my disappointment. Ugh.

Thanks for the tip. So sorry your daughter had to encounter such self-centered people. I was shy for a good portion of my growing years, so I can relate to how painful it must have been for her to stand there for 45 minutes without even a smile and a nod from anyone! Poor sweetie!
By the way, I snuck a peek at your tastullfy simple website and the products, but had to stop when I realized I was licking my screen!

I am sorry your dd was treated this way. why offer a trial class if you are not going to attempt to engage a newbie? Was there a recital or something coming up that they were preparing for? This is still no excuse to ignore a child that has come to class, but may explain the reluctance to assist the visitor. Perhaps you could try another meeting time for the class...
My 4 year old loves dancing-has since she could stand. I had considered in putting her in an actual class and when this thread popped up-I thought there may be some suggestions.
I know All About Kids had dance classes for little ones and when my older daughter took gymnastics a few years ago, I enjoyed watching the little dancers. I thought about checking their program for my little one...or maybe a dance clinic type thing...to see if she would like it.
Good luck with your search. Let us know when you find a good program....

I danced there for 13 years. I had three different teachers and Kathy was one of them. I miss dance sooo much. It kept me out of other things.. well for a while at least I would recommend this place too. Kathy is really great with little ones. It is out of your way though. It's off of Taylor Blvd on Ashland Ave. Right off of Watterson Expwy tho.
I hope you find some place soon. If I would have continued dance I would have probably opened my own studio by now.

My daughter takes Irish Dance Lessons at the McClanahan School of Irish Dance located in Lyndon on Vinecrest. I would highly recommend this school!! We're not Irish at all, but it has been a great experience to learn about another culture and get to perform at local community events as well as compete in different cities. For those mothers who don't want their young daughters performing inappropriate dance moves or wearing too skimpy dancewear this is a great alternative that requires a high level of athleticism. Their website is mcclanahanirishdance.com.
