Uh Oh...I dyed my hair ash blonde yesterday and most of my hair is now green!!! What to do & when will I ever learn LOL. My natural color is a dirty blonde so I thought this color would be peferct with a few highlights (bought the Loreal combo kit). I have used this before so I skipped the strand test and followed the directions. I didn't get too upset over it thinking I could just call the hotline, however their hours are Mon-Fri, uh well it's Sat. now what ??? I'll tell you what...I go spend more money an a product that is supposed to strip out the color...wrong, hair is still green!!! I went out today and bought light golden brown to recolor (because all my research online tells me this will work also to make sure I use a hair color with a red base) but I am to paranoid to use it :(  Now I have to try and find money in my budget to get it fixed on top of the $50 I spent messing it up. LOL

What is your worst DIY disaster and how did you fix it?

Yes, I have not had luck dying my own hair either.  I tried to do it just after my daughter was born because she was so young and I didn't want to go sit in a salon - or pay the money!  It was horrible - reddish orangey.  I would not do it again because ultimately I did live with it for a few weeks and then just went out and spent the money to have it fixed professionally anyway!

oh man!  I've never had my hair turn green before.  that is crazy.  it would be okay if it was st. patty's day and you just were in the "mood"...as you could at least pull that off.  I think I would call the hotline or google it on line and find some answers and in the meantime use lots and lots of conditioner!

Tee hee hee! I ended up gray green once so I can relate. Tried stripping and recoloring but ended up orange! SO that was the end of the DIY hair color (which I had done for years! NO strand tests either!) I decided that the money spent on a professional color was MUCH less than fixing the DIY disaster! And do NOT let them tell you that you need the process to make your hair healthy, etc. You want straight color that will cover whar you have! I had to walk around with a color I wasn't happy with for about 6 weeks and nightly, heavy leave in conditioner but I'm ok now! Wish you were in Dallas or Denver. I have friends that are stylists that would do it for me for about $50 when they would normally be able to charge hundreds! LOL!

I streaked my hair pink once for a breast cancer fundraiser, and then couldn't get it out when the walk was over!  The pink I did myself, but had the "fix it" done professionally...thankfully he didn't charge me for it because of why the pink was done in the first place.  The best they could do, though, was a burgundy/red (my hair is brownish red normally) with purple highlights.  And it stayed that way until it grew out!

desperatemommy, sounds like your hair was pretty porous.  You got the green color because you used an "ash" color.  To cut ash, you need to go to the opposite side of the color wheel which would be a color with a bit of gold in it.   You will def. want to do a test strand though especially since you used something to strip out the color.  I don't know what color your natural is or the color u used, but I'm thinking a 10G might help.  But like I said, do a test strand.  And since you stripped it, it is even more porous so you might not need to leave it on as long as the bottle/box tells you.  Also, use as low of developer at possible.  (10 volume if you can find it, if not, 20.) Good luck!

You win some, you lose some, and some get rained out; but you have to be dressed for all of them. (Be prepared for whatever comes your way.)

LOL OMG I have been every color you can think of! I love to dye my hair and I always do it myself, much more fun that way! I have Been Vitamin C Orange, crayola red, forest green, Green Gray! In the end I always get an amazing color that i love, I try to get all my "ingredients" at Sally Beauty the girls there are always super helpful! Just make sure you deep condition every 3 days for 2 weeks after a DIY hair Dye it will restore it and also prevent any further damage especially if you use heat on your hair.  One tip about dying that is important to know, Color cant lift color, So if you are ever going lighter you want to use a bleach first to lift the color and then color over it. So if your hair was dark and you went to use the ash that is why you got the results that you got. Even though the box shows it will work it very often will not work cause color cant lift color it isnt made that way. Next time use a bleach to lighten then the color to correct. Good luck!

Red cancells out green. I am a hirdresser & know this for a fact. Whenever you see ash on the box it means it has a green base & you blondes out there should stay far away from it.  Do a deep conditioner after you re dye it or try a 10 volume such as Clariol natrual instincts, it does less damage.

I had problems with a Clairol color once, turned me jet black.  I called Clairol and the lady at Clairol gave me exact instructions on how to fix it.  I had to bleach it to pumpkin orange with a bleaching kit and then redye to brown.   Clairol sent me a ton of coupons and a check to reimburse me for my expenses.  I would call Loreal and see what they say.
