I've been doing my best to avoid catching my daughter's cold this week and think I will run and get a neti pot this weekend after reading all the great info you shared on this Green Moms! Group discussion thread. But in the meantime I've been gargling with salt water and using my secret weapon cold-stopper. It may not be very "green" but it almost always works for me. I get some Gatorade or Powerade or a similar sports drink and pour about 1/2 cup in a glass and fill the rest with water...and drink this 2 or 3 times throughout the day. It must be rebalancing my electrolytes...or something!...which maybe go astray when you're fighting a cold? Do you know? All I know is that this seems to work for me. What works for you?

Honey, lemon, a shot of rum and if you like, some ginger.

I love that quote! I've used it in my family calendars throughout the years!

I just went through this.  My daughter had been sick for about a week with cold symptoms.  We were heading out to see an older daughter of ours Saturday morning.  I woke up and felt like my throat was on fire.  I'm sure I was catching whatever she had.  NOT FUN!  :(  I had bought Echinacea, zinc and more for extra immune support thinking, "It's cold and flu season........"   You are supposed to take 6/day for about a week.  I took three.  My throat was sore all day.  That night, I took three more.  I was AMAZED when I woke up the next morning and my throat was no longer sore.   I never got whatever I was getting so IT WORKS!  :)  I did take it Sunday and Monday but I am fine, so did not take it today.  I will be keeping it on hand!!!

We have all been sick around the office, but my buddy has avoided it. He drinks a lot of water and tons of GARLIC!

I have found that a bottle of Naked Juice Power C does wonders for me if I think I'm catching just about anything.  My husband swears by just any OJ, but it has to be the Power C for me.

Try Emergen-C packets. Mix in water and it's 1,000mg of Vitamin C and has other minerals as well. I like the Lemon Lime flavor!

Good Luck not catching that cold

I wish I liked sushi, Krazy, my husband loves it. When we go to our favorite sushi restaurant, I eat the barbeque albacore, thats what keeps me going back. YUMMM

I'm a nut for probiotics, cod liver oil and whole food. All of those are proven immune builders.

I would have to agree with one of the other posts.  A healthy gut does wonders for a better immune system so I say probiotics and more probiotics.  If I have a sore throat I will gargle it before I swallow it.  Garlic oil in the ears is great too especially if you have an earache.  Vitamin C and lots of it.  Homeopathy has also worked for me in the past but one of my most favorite is vitamin D.  This is also fabulous for preventing the flu and helping recover from it.  We usually get vitamin D from the sun but since that is not accessible during this time of year most are deficient.  If you decide to take it in supplemental form it is recommended to get lab work done so one does not overdose.  There is a lot of info on the web about how to take vitamin D safely.

Good Luck!
